Margie Hoffnung Talk on Westonbirt School and the Holford Legacy

We are delighted that the Lowsley-Williams family are kindly hosting a talk by Margie Hoffnung on Westonbirt School – A Historical Introduction to the Gardens and the Holford Legacy.

The Talk
Many of you will be familiar with the arboretum at Westonbirt, but perhaps fewer of you have actually visited the school grounds at Westonbirt House, initially conceived by Robert Stayner Holford. Drawing on archive material from various sources, including recently acquired information and photographs from the family of the architect of Westonbirt School, Margie will take us through the development of this extraordinary Victorian vision, showing how the Holford family created these extraordinary gardens over several generations, and the recent stunning restoration work undertaken by the Holfords Westonbirt Trust.

The Speaker
Margie Hoffnung completed a 4 year horticulture degree at Writtle College, after working at Westonbirt Arboretum. Her sandwich placement was with Rosemary Verey, the well-known plantswoman, author and garden designer, with whom she continued to work for over a decade until Rosemary’s death. She also spent some years at Highgrove as both gardener and garden guide for HRH The Prince of Wales, as well as manning Jekka McVicar’s herb stand at flower shows like Chelsea and Hampton Court for several seasons.

Venue
This event is being held at Chavenage House by kind permission of the Lowsley-Williams family.
